The brush is a small, fast raptor found throughout the Sentinel Mountains. The brush hawk is mostly brown with a white chest and black and white markings on the wings. It has a four feet wing span. The brush hawk has a head which is slightly longer and more narrow than average and is crowned by two tufts of feathers that sweep back like horns, giving it a somewhat regal appearance.
Brush hawks generally flee larger opponents. They are extremely agile in the air and difficult to catch or strike with a weapon. They become very aggressive fighters when defending their nest.
The brush hawk is the most common bird in the Sentinel Mountains. The brush hawk nests in clumps of tall grass. It’s large, oval green eggs are edible and tasty.
Brush hawks feed on rodents and snakes. They have a tendency to steal and horde shiny (or glowing) objects. They have been known to snatch small items from campsites and weave metallic objects such as necklaces and coins into the nests.
